COACH Mike Dean

Mike grew up in a small town in northern Ontario where most schools had outdoor rinks during the winter months.  He played rep hockey during the winters as well as participating in school sporting activities and teams finishing 3rd in Provincials for Shot Put & 2nd in Long Distant Track.  During the summer months Mike participated in baseball, played tennis and spent time camping and working on the farm.  Mike was also involved with Boy Scouts and then Army Cadets.

After moving to the West Coast, Mike became a Level 3 Foster Parent for over 10 years and worked with street youth through the Union Gospel Mission.

In 2015, 2016 and 2017 Coach Mike was an Assistant Coach with the Lower Mainland Monarchs Spring Hockey 2006 & 2003 teams.  Previously Coach Mike was with MMHA as a Coach with Atom & Peewee Rep and, when finished coaching, held the position of Pewee Division Manager.  Following Minor Hockey Mike Co-Founded Mission Minor Roller Hockey and held the position of President.  From 2016 -2018, Mike was an on-ice Instructor/Evaluator with the BC Hockey Midget Scholarship Program which went on to win Gold in each of those years.  Currently Mike plays men’s ice hockey, and baseball.  In the summer of 2024 Mike will be Head Coach for the ladies 60+ BC team at the 55+ Canada Games in Quebec City.

Mike’s approach to coaching and teaching is through correction and repetition.  He considers himself a student of the game: “as the game advances so must the skills and conditioning to participate in it, regardless of what level you participate at!”  This philosophy applies to all the sports he teaches in.

Mike represents our HP Prep for Rep Power Skating, Conditioning and Development Camps and our Adult/Youth Academies.  Mike is also available for Private Lessons and works with Player and Team Development as well as Association Power Skating.   During the summer, Mike runs a small group High Performance (Academy and AAA) mini camp in preparation for the season.  Players come up from the US and BC.
