Kate is a specialist trainer with many years of experience and
works with our clients over 50. She has the skills and education to really
understand the goals of older adults and how they differ from younger people.
Kate’s clients tell her that “We want to maintain our independence. We want to
avoid falls, injury, and disease. We want to keep doing things we enjoy and
live life on our terms for as long as possible.” Kate’s approach to exercise
and fitness will ensure that you are able to maintain or even begin an active
lifestyle at any age.
Life takes many twists and turns; Kate has overcome many setbacks
and struggles but this gives her a unique perspective when working with
clients.
Kate started her fitness career in her native UK back in the 80’s
complete with big hair, spandex and leg warmers. Personal Training and Kinesiology
had not been defined or recognised as a profession back then. It was the YMCA
who developed a program to educate and certify teachers of “Exercise to Music”
and Kate was among the first group to be awarded what was a ground-breaking
certification at the time.
Without access to relevant University courses 40 years ago, Kate
embarked upon what has become a lifelong passion for learning and improving her
skills to help her clients. Over the years she has attended countless seminars,
conferences, workshops and taking courses – accumulating a binder full of
certifications. Her current area of study includes Tai Chi Qi Gong which has
been proven to be so valuable in preventing falls and improving cognitive
health as we age.
Kate enjoys good health and an active lifestyle. She plays hockey
and is aiming to take part in the BC Seniors Games. Kate bikes, hikes, golfs,
camps, snowshoes and skis, and has recently taken up golf.
